Romans 14: 1-4: Throw off the things that divide us and unite to bring the gospel to the world.

Updated: Feb 20, 2023

Thank you for joining today as we seek God’s wisdom together. Let us begin with prayer.

“Lord Jesus, I ask that you take the words in this blog and breathe life into them. Apart from your anointing they are just words on a page. I ask that you quicken our hearts to hear, see, and act upon what you are trying to teach us by the Power of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.”

Romans 14: 1-4 (NLT).

“Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. 2For instance, one person believes it’s all right to eat anything. But another believer with a sensitive conscience will eat only vegetables. 3Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God had accepted them. 4Who are you to condemn someone else’s servants? Their own master will judge whether they stand or fall. And with the Lord’s help, they will stand and receive his approval.”

What the Word is Saying

The enemy will lose the war. The victory has already been secured. However, individually his strategy is to divide us so that he can attempt to prevent the lost from coming to our side. How does he do this? Quite simply he pits us one against each other. By drawing our focus away from unity in Christ and fixing our eyes on our differences.

What are the differences you say? Well really if you confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of all, and you believe that God has raised Him from the dead we are on the same team. That is literally all that matters. Nevertheless, we focus on denominational differences, doctrinal differences, what we eat, where and when we go to church, whether we have plenty or whether we have been left with want. The enemy will do all he can to divide us by convincing us that we are better than the others because we do this or don’t do this. It must grieve our Savior and the Holy Spirit living within us.

This is what Paul is talking about in today's scripture verses. We come from all kinds of backgrounds and have come to know Jesus from different places in life. What we do after that day is a process of the Holy Spirit putting His finger on our faults and false doctrines and giving us the Power to overcome them. Paul is saying fix your eyes on Jesus. Jesus would say remove the log from your own eye before you see fit to remove the twig from your neighbors. I have some refreshing news for all of us: We are not the Holy Spirit, so let Him do His job. Let's not lord over each other about how great our faith is and how weak their faith is. Be humble and treat your neighbor as you would yourself. Give them favor, honor, respect, and preference.

We think we know what is right, we are “sure” our doctrine or denomination has it right, but we cannot know in this life. Let’s be a united body of Christ focused on bringing the gospel to the lost throughout the world. The world in turn will then be in wonder at what the Lord has been able to do in us.

If you have not yet given your life to Jesus, I encourage you to do it right now. Right where you are; say this prayer with me out loud: “Jesus I confess that you are Lord of all, I believe you came to this earth, lived a sinless life, suffered and died on a cross for my sins, they put you in a tomb, and you rose again from the dead three days later. I ask you to send me your Holy Spirit to lead me into all truth and give me the Power to live for you. In Jesus Name, Amen.” If you prayed that prayer, I encourage you to contact us so we can stand beside you and hold you up in your journey with Him. I also encourage you to find a church. Somewhere, where you can learn and be fed spiritually as you learn to walk with Jesus.

Thank you for joining me today as we searched the scriptures for What the Word is Saying to us Today. I pray that God would send His Holy Spirit into our lives anew and fill us again with His love and His purpose for us.
